Souad Ait Alla – Morocco

Weaver – Cooperative Development

My name is Souad Ait Alla. I work in the cooperative Toudart Iwsta. My sister Hayat is President for the cooperative. I live here in Midelt. The women need support.

We work hard to help them make and sell their handicrafts. We work with the Peace Corps, The first was Corey Driver and Brian Cramer, and now Bill. Corey Driver, the first male volunteer, told us to form a cooperative. Brian Cramer helped us go to expositions, like in Germany. Now we are working with Bill.

When I was a child my mom took me near to her, and she taught me how to card the wool and work with it. She showed me how we can be happy making crafts and making new designs. We talk while we work, and we also tell stories in what we make.
