Istvan Damo – Romania/Hungary

I’m Istvan Damo. I was born in Transylvania, in Sibiu in 1951. I grew up in Brasov, in Germany, and I finished my studies at the Fine Arts School in Bucharest in the graphics department. After the political change in 1990, I left Romania with my family, and we live now in Hungary in Kecskemet.

In Kecskemet town I am a teacher at the art school. I am a graphic artist. I make not just special graphics. I make drawings, etchings, paintings, and illustrations for children, and artist books, too.

Now we (Inter-Art Camp) are together with twenty-two or twenty-three artists in Torozko in the middle of Transylvania. For me Torozko is a new world. I discover it for the first time. Yes, for me, always when I come back to Transylvania, I discover something new, so I can say, “Transylvania in my mind”.
